Additional Learning Needs

All of our classes are mixed ability.  The class teachers plan carefully to meet the needs of the range of abilities within each class.  Teachers prepare and organise differentiated work and activities to enable the children to have full access to the curriculum.

Our school seeks to ensure that all children with Additional Learning Needs, whether physical, intellectual, social or emotional, receive appropriate educational provision and support, thus enabling them to develop to their full potential and be fully integrated into school life.

Concern regarding a child may be expressed by a parent, class teacher or outside agencies involved in the welfare of that child.

Following a period of detailed observation and assessment, the individual needs of the child will be catered for accordingly.

At times, it is necessary to call on the expertise of outside specialist agencies such as the School Nurse, a Speech Therapist or an Educational Psychologist.

We provide small group, focused support on a regular, timetabled basis for pupils from Reception to Year 2 as and when such support is required by the child.

Parents of children requiring Additional Needs provision are regularly informed of any steps being taken to assist in their child’s progress.  Their support is a key element in this process.
